Why isn't brushing my retainer enough?
Brushing scrapes the surface, but retainers, aligners, and mouthguards have microscopic grooves that a toothbrush can't reach. Bacteria, biofilm, and yeast build up in those grooves and get placed right back into your mouth every time you wear it. SteriSmile uses ultrasonic waves and UV-C light to reach where bristles can't.
Are cleaning tablets not enough on their own?
Tablets help dissolve some surface debris, but they rely on soaking alone. Without ultrasonic agitation, the solution can't penetrate the biofilm layer where bacteria actually live. Tablets also leave chemical residue that some appliance materials absorb over time. SteriSmile cleans with water and sound waves, no chemicals needed.
Will SteriSmile damage my retainer or aligners?
No. SteriSmile is safe for all standard dental appliances including clear retainers, clear aligners, night guards, mouthguards, and full or partial dentures. The cleaning cycle uses low-frequency ultrasonic waves that clean without heat, abrasion, or harsh chemicals.
How often should I use it?
Once a day is ideal, right after you take your appliance out. Each cycle runs about 3 minutes. Consistent daily use is what keeps bacteria from establishing a foothold in the first place.
Is it safe to use every day?
Yes. SteriSmile is designed for daily use. The UV-C light and ultrasonic cleaning are non-abrasive and won't wear down your appliance over time.
How long does the UV-C bulb last?
The UV-C bulb is rated for approximately 8,000 hours of use, which works out to roughly 10 years of daily cleaning cycles.
How long does shipping take?
Standard shipping is free and arrives in 3-7 business days within the US. Expedited shipping (2-3 business days) is available at checkout. Orders process within 1-2 business days.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. SteriSmile comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. If your unit stops working properly within the first year, we'll replace it at no cost.
What if I don't like it?
We offer a 30-day return window on unused units in original packaging. For hygiene reasons, opened and used devices can't be returned, but if your unit arrives defective or breaks within the warranty period, we replace it free of charge.
Do you ship internationally?
Not yet. We currently ship within the United States only. International shipping is on our roadmap.
